I love all the Universal Monster movies, but The Bride of Frankenstein has a special place in my heart because of the stunning performance of Elsa Lanchester w/ her penetrating gaze. The film also has some interesting commentary on Christianity by inverting the central Christian belief of the death of Christ followed by the resurrection. The Monster is raised from the dead first, then crucified. Everything is torn asunder in that film and there is some resentment in creation and complex love triangles. I'm just exploring some visual aesthetics in this work, but I think about things like this while working and it informs my design decisions. This distinctive layered collage transforms the experience of a doomed relationship into an explosive kinetic statement.
This is an original one-of-a-kind collage and there may be some light paper buckling, paper damage, and an uneven surface. It's fixed with light acrylic spray and stamped, signed, and dated on the back.
